Job Description

The Monitoring Architect is responsible for defining, designing, and evolving enterprise-grade monitoring and observability solutions across complex IT environments. The role focuses on establishing robust monitoring strategies and scalable architectures that meet operational excellence, security, and business continuity requirements.

Working closely with Monitoring SREs, IT Operations, System Engineers, and Application Teams, the Monitoring Architect translates business and technical needs into structured, maintainable, and future-proof monitoring solutions. While not an operational role, the position provides expert-level architectural guidance and support, particularly for complex incidents, design challenges, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and maintain end-to-end monitoring architectures for infrastructure, systems, and applications

  • Define and enforce monitoring standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines

  • Evaluate, select, and integrate monitoring and observability tools and technologies

  • Design and optimize alerting strategies (thresholds, alert logic, escalation models, noise reduction)

  • Ensure monitoring solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable

  • Collaborate closely with Monitoring SRE teams to support complex tickets, incidents, and investigations

  • Provide architectural guidance during the onboarding of new systems and services

  • Participate in root cause analysis and drive monitoring-related improvements

  • Produce and maintain architectural documentation, configurations, and operational procedures

  • Support the continuous improvement of observability capabilities, including metrics, alerts, dashboards, SLIs, and SLOs


Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong background in Linux system administration

  • Solid experience in system engineering and IT operations

  • Proven experience in designing and operating monitoring solutions in enterprise environments

  • Hands-on expertise with monitoring and observability tools, including:

    • Icinga

    • Prometheus

    • Grafana

  • Strong experience with metrics, alerting, dashboards, and monitoring automation

  • Experience with CI/CD and automation tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab)

  • Configuration and infrastructure automation using Ansible and Terraform

  • Experience using REST APIs from different products and tools

  • Good understanding of networking, virtualization, and distributed systems

  • Scripting and automation skills (e.g. Bash, Python)

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and clearly explain complex technical concepts

  • Structured, detail-oriented, and documentation-focused mindset

  • Proactive attitude with a strong focus on continuous improvement

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets)

  • Exposure to cloud and containerized environments (Kubernetes, cloud-native monitoring)

  • Proven experience in reducing alert fatigue and improving monitoring quality

  • Knowledge of Dynatrace Managed monitoring system

  • Dynatrace certification is a strong advantage

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Proficiency in any additional European language is a plus
